What If You Didn't Go Back? How to Carry Rest and Self-Trust Into a New Month

July 29, 20263 min read

There’s something about the start of a new month that makes us want to begin again.

A fresh calendar.

A new goal.

A different version of ourselves.

And while there’s nothing wrong with that, I want to ask you a different question today.

What if you didn’t go back?

Not back to rushing through your mornings.

Not back to believing rest has to be earned.

Not back to saying yes when your body is quietly begging you to say no.

Not back to carrying everything for everyone else.

This month, we've talked a lot about slowing down.

We've explored what it means to truly rest, to listen to our bodies, to create healthy boundaries, and to remember that our worth has never been measured by how productive we are.

But here's what I know to be true.

It's easy to practice these things when they're the focus.

It's much harder when life gets busy again.

When school starts.

When schedules fill up.

When work gets hectic.

When everyone seems to need something from you.

That's usually when we slip back into old patterns without even realizing it.

I've done it, too.

I've caught myself rushing through the day, eating lunch while answering emails, telling myself I'll rest "after I finish just one more thing."

The problem is, there is always one more thing.

Life doesn't suddenly become less demanding.

Which means if we're waiting for life to slow down before we take care of ourselves, we'll be waiting a very long time.

Instead, what if we carried this month with us?

What if rest became part of the rhythm instead of something we reached for after exhaustion?

What if boundaries became an act of self-respect instead of something we apologized for?

What if slowing down wasn't a detour from the life we want, but the very path leading us there?

The truth is, transformation rarely happens because of one big moment.

It happens because of small choices we make over and over again.

One deep breath before reacting.

One honest no.

One evening where we choose rest instead of pushing through.

One quiet walk.

One yoga practice.

One moment of remembering ourselves.

Those moments may seem small.

But they have a way of changing everything.

So as we step into a new month, I don't want you to think about everything you need to start doing.

Instead, ask yourself this:

What is one thing from this month I want to carry with me?

Maybe it's taking five minutes to breathe before your day begins.

Maybe it's checking in with your body before saying yes.

Maybe it's remembering that rest isn't a reward.

Or maybe it's simply speaking to yourself with a little more kindness than you did yesterday.

Whatever it is, let it be enough.

You don't have to overhaul your life overnight.

You don't have to become someone new.

You simply have to keep choosing the version of yourself you've been reconnecting with all month long.

Because this was never about having the perfect July.

It was about remembering that you already have everything you need to come home to yourself.

And that journey doesn't end when the calendar changes.

It continues one breath, one choice, and one gentle step at a time.

I'll meet you there.

May you always stay true to your intentions, true to your hearts desires and speak loving truth to those around you. Love ya!

Jennifer
